Remote Proctoring – AZ Sint-Jan Bruges

Our mediAVentures in-house engineering team came up with a tailor-made solution for ultra-low-latency proctoring across different continents, helping product specialists around the globe to overcome travel restrictions. Providing a comfortable and highly interactive proctoring environment to support the surgical team in Bruges during this 'first-of-a-kind' procedure.

First Belgian Minimally invasive Tricuspid Valve Repair with a little touch of mediAVentures…

While global travel restrictions continued to limit proctoring in 2020, Dr. Jan Van der Heyden and Dr. Philippe Debonnaire of the AZ Sint-Jan hospital in Bruges reached out to mediAVentures in an effort to re-connect industry and product experts for this ‘first-of-a-kind’ procedure in Belgium.

Combining our experience in transmission, software development and streaming, we came up with a tailor-made solution that provided a ‘one click’ login for a handful of invited surgeons and product specialists from Canada, France, Germany, and New Zealand. The experts arrived on a custom interactive web page, right in the heart of the action. Being able to follow the procedure along with all relevant medical sources in high quality, joining animated discussions via a high quality audio system, all within less than 800 milliseconds was a truly unique experience.

Perhaps the most accurate and wide-used quote of the day was ‘This is the future’. Our in-house development team at mediAVentures is pushing hard to extend the functionality of this proctoring platform, adding more interactive tools such as drawing capabilities alongside other, more ‘under-the-hood’ and back-end improvements.

To be continued…
